Department of Entomology

Department of Entomology is the major discipline, came into existence in the year 2016 with the establishment of Sri Krishnadevaraya college of Horticultural Sciences, Ananthapuramu. This department is offering five courses for B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture viz., ENTO-1.6.1 (Fundamentals of Entomology), ENTO-2.6.1 (Insect Pests of Fruit, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Crops), ENTO-2.6.2 (Integrated Pest Management and Nematodes Pest Management), ENTO-3.6.1 (Insect Pests of Vegetable, Ornamental and Spice Crops), ENTO-3.6.2 (Apiculture, Sericulture and Lac culture) as per guidelines of Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Andhra Pradesh. The main objective of the department is to impart basic knowledge to the students about the study of the classification, life cycle, distribution, physiology, behaviour, ecology, population dynamics, damaging symptoms of insect and non insect pests on horticultural crops, stored grain pests and their control measures including Integrated Pest Management and also about economically important insects. The department also involved in implementing the RHWE programme and crop protection technology courses to final year students to gain practical farm work experience for understanding the problems and their management of crop pests.
