Department of Plant Protection

Department of Entomology

The Department of Entomology is a major discipline that came into existence in the year 2016 with the establishment of Sri Krishnadevaraya College of Horticultural Sciences, Ananthapuramu.

This department offers five courses for B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture as per the guidelines of Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Andhra Pradesh:

  • ENTO-1.6.1 – Fundamentals of Entomology
  • ENTO-2.6.1 – Insect Pests of Fruit, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Crops
  • ENTO-2.6.2 – Integrated Pest Management and Nematodes Pest Management
  • ENTO-3.6.1 – Insect Pests of Vegetable, Ornamental and Spice Crops
  • ENTO-3.6.2 – Apiculture, Sericulture and Lac Culture

The main objective of the department is to impart basic knowledge to students about the classification, life cycle, distribution, physiology, behavior, ecology, population dynamics, and damaging symptoms of insect and non-insect pests on horticultural crops, including stored grain pests. Students are trained in pest control measures with a focus on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and are educated about economically important insects.

The department is also actively involved in implementing the RHWE (Rural Horticultural Work Experience) programme and crop protection technology courses for final year students. These initiatives provide practical farm work experience, enabling students to understand crop pest problems and their management.

Department of Plant Pathology

The Department of Plant Pathology was established in 2016 at Sri Krishnadevaraya College of Horticultural Sciences, Ananthapuramu to undertake both research and teaching programs. It has been an integral part of the college since its inception, committed to advancing the understanding and management of plant diseases to support sustainable horticulture and ecosystem health.

The department offers the following courses for B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture as per the guidelines of Dr. YSR Horticultural University:

  • PATH-1.7.1 – Fundamentals of Plant Pathology
  • PATH-2.7.1 – Diseases of Fruit, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Crops
  • PATH-3.7.1 – Diseases of Vegetables, Ornamental and Spice Crops
  • ELP-405 – Bio-inputs: Bio-fertilizers and Bio-pesticides

The department also offers the following courses as per the VIth Dean’s Committee:

  • PTSE-1.7.1 – Mushroom Cultivation
  • PTMJE-1.7.1 – Principles of Integrated Pest and Disease Management
  • Fundamentals of Plant Pathology
  • Disease Management of Horticulture Crops
  • Diseases of Field Crops and Their Management
  • Production Technology of Bio-fertilizers and Bio-pesticides

The primary objective of the department is to educate students on various plant pathogens—their characteristics, classification, and the diseases they cause—along with strategies for their integrated management.

Students gain practical experience through hands-on laboratory work, including the detection and diagnosis of plant pathogens. By combining research, teaching, and field exposure, the department equips students with the skills and knowledge required to address global challenges in plant health. Graduates are well-prepared for diverse career paths in academia, industry, and the public sector.
